Recent F.I.R.S.T. Institute graduates Christina Carmona and Nando Luis Torres have not only been paving the way for future and fellow graduates but they’ve also created their own lane in the film and entertainment industry. From providing opportunities for those who share the same passion to debuting future films on some of the most privileged. I recently caught up with the two trailblazers to discuss the past, present and future of Bad Kitty Films!
Up and coming producer, writer, director, Bronx, New York native and F.I.R.S.T. Institute Alumni, Christina Carmona, is also the CEO of the illustrious Bad Kitty Films. With an entertainment and acting background in her youth, naturally Christina grew into directing children’s plays such as: Annie, Grease and The Wizard of Oz. Progressively, Christina has performed media entertainment as an employee of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World. As one would expect, the CEO is currently hosting the Indie Cinema Showcase (ICS) on Brighthouse Networks, is an events entertainment production coordinator for Universal, and has helped out with the entertainment needs for both the Today Show and the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon!
On the other side of the dream turned reality is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, filmmaker, professional photographer and Puerto Rico native, Fernando Luis Torres. The virtual “jack of all trades” (also known as “Nando”) began his career in entertainment in 2006 when he began working for Walt Disney World Entertainment, as character events, shows, and parade coordinator. Since then he has gone on to work on several TV productions and films. He is also the owner and founder of Atomic Phoenix Photography, a local Orlando photography studio specializing in fashion, portrait, event, and lifestyle photography. Atomic Phoenix Photography is also the official photography studio for Season 3 of Indie Cinema Showcase. In 2012 Fernando graduated from the F.I.R.S.T. College in Film and TV Production.
Together the duo made it to the Central Florida Film Festival with their short-film “The Conversation.” Admirably, the team brought along F.I.R.S.T. Institute apprentices, too as camera crew in the making of this poetic, revelation feature film. The team at Bad Kitty Films was more than pleased with the professionalism and performance of the film and video production students. “We have another short film in the very early pre production stage. I am excited to get this one going. Life has been very good. It has been a lot of hard work but all worth it!” says Christina. Together they continue pushing Bad Kitty Films to the limits and finding new ways to entertain. As far as Nando is concerned, Bad Kitty Films has no limits.
