Meet Miranda Garrett, a Digital Filmmaking & Video Production student at Orlando’s F.I.R.S.T. Institute. She’s had a love for movies since a really young age. But, she chose to study theater production in college.
Later, Miranda went on to take film classes while studying abroad. That’s when she realized that film was actually her passion. She returned to the states, settled down in Orlando, and enrolled as a student at F.I.R.S.T. Institute.
Miranda Garrett’s F.I.R.S.T. Institute Experience
One of Miranda’s favorite things about F.I.R.S.T. is the small class sizes. This allows you to get more hands-on assistance from your instructor. It also provides each student with a more personalized approach to education.
As a F.I.R.S.T. student, her class worked on a commercial project, which was pretty much her favorite. This was her first project acting as the director. She enjoyed helping the client get the end result they wanted for the commercial.
Ms. Garrett shows pride when she tells the camera that the client loved how the project turned out.
Throughout her studentship at F.I.R.S.T., Miranda’s had opportunities to intern with the Orlando Film Festival and the Florida Film Festival. She’s done videography work for the Orlando Strong Man’s Competition and camera operator work for the Live Oak International Horse Show.
From Student to Princess Cruise Video Producer… All Before Graduation
Miranda Garrett is very unique as a student. She is excited to have landed a very lucrative, paying job while still a student at F.I.R.S.T. Institute.
There’s a special type of twinkle in her eyes as she shares her excitement about getting a job with Princess Cruise Lines as a Video Producer before she’s even graduated!
So, Miranda already has her after-graduation plans laid out. After walking across the stage, she’ll move to Los Angeles, California where she’ll travel on a cruise ship filming events, shows, and commercials for the world-famous cruise line.
She’ll also be open for hire as a videographer for families on vacation enjoying their cruises.
The F.I.R.S.T. Institute Digital Filmmaking & Video Production student’s advice to a new student is to network as much as you can. And keep looking for jobs. Even if there’s an opportunity to do free work, or work on jobs you’re not necessarily interested in, just take it.
It’s about building your professional resume and your demo reel. This is also a form of networking that gets your name out there more, which increases your opportunities even more.
