Luis Lasanta – Student Story, Recording Arts & Show Production

Luis Lasanta – Student Spotlight, Recording Arts & Show Production

Meet Luis Lasanta, a Recording Arts & Show Production student at F.I.R.S.T. Institute in Orlando, Florida. Growing up Luis wrote a lot of music, specializing in love songs for the girls. He used music as a form of therapy, getting in his zone as he listened to it and all that “creativity it can accomplish.”

As a student at F.I.R.S.T. Institute, one of Lasanta’s favorite projects is SVM, which stands for Sound Visual Media. Students working on an SVM project get their own trailer, where they work as a team to create their own sound.

Luis says it took some adjusting to learn to work on a team. Since he’s generally an independent artist, dealing with the habits and opinions of others was an amazing experience. He was surprised how teamwork brought everything together. From the field recordings, to getting all the sounds and special effects together, the entire project just blew his mind.

Luis Lasanta Joins GLAD Empire

Mr. Lasanta currently works at GLAD Empire as a recording engineer. So far, he’s worked with such names as Guelo Star, DJ Nelson, Alberto Stylee and others who have active projects going on right now.

Luis gets nostalgic as he talks about a time when he was called into the GLAD studio to record an artist. According to him, it was “one of the big dawgs.” He says it was amazing to get the chance to work with Cosculluela. The F.I.R.S.T. student had grown up listening to Cosculluela’s music. So, he seriously couldn’t believe he was getting such an opportunity.

As a student, Luis Lasanta plans to take full advantage of his F.I.R.S.T. Institute education. He intends to learn everything he can from every engineer, artist and producer that steps foot inside the doors of the Orlando music school and his employer. It’s his goal to gain all he can from his music production education.

Why? Well, in the end, his ultimate career goals include owning his own studio and record label. He smiles as he thinks about someday partnering up with his soon-to-be Alma Mater to have F.I.R.S.T. students intern at his studio.

F.I.R.S.T. Institute Helps Create Engineering Careers

So, how did this Orlando recording engineer student end up working for GLAD Empire? Well, it took a lot of footwork and hustle. He knocked on a few doors, made some phone calls and sent out some emails. Eventually, someone responded to one of his emails, and invited him to interview for an internship at GLAD.

About a month or two later, they told him he was ready for the next step in his recording career. GLAD passed on bringing him on as an intern. Instead, the F.I.R.S.T. student was hired as a recording engineer.

Lasanta Credits F.I.R.S.T. Institute’s Career Development Program

Luis Lasanta says that the class that stands out the most to him at F.I.R.S.T. Institute is Career Development. The staff there gives you everything you need to become successful in this industry. And these teachers are also there for the students after they graduate. They follow up through phone calls and will do what it takes to help you get a job after graduation.

Lasanta gives special thanks to Alfonso. He’s always giving him a hand, tips on do’s and don’ts, what to expect and great advice related to the industry. According to Luis, F.I.R.S.T. Institute’s Career Development course gives its students the tools they need to go out and hunt for a career, while still attending school. That’s what he did. And, look where he is now!

The best advice Luis can give, which he says you’ll probably hear a million times, is that you have to believe in your dreams. Never give up. Work hard for what you really want. And, never ever underestimate yourself. “You never know what you’re capable of until you actually start trying.”
