Misael Munoz: Graduate Story | F.I.R.S.T. Institute

“This is where I can excel, this is where I can grow.”

All About Misael

Misael graduated from F.I.R.S.T. Institute a few years ago, and took some time out of his working schedule to come back to campus and tell us his story and what he’s been up to since graduation! Misael taught himself guitar at an early age – around 14 years old, he already knew that he wanted to create music for a living.

In high school, Misael played in bands, which he says was a great learning experience. At that time, he wanted to write and play music – it wasn’t until later that his interest shifted behind the mixing board.

Before F.I.R.S.T. Institute

After high school, Misael had difficulty finding his way into the music industry. While recording music was his dream, he decided to take some time off of his pursuit and focus on a more immediate job prospect in the automotive industry.

Misael gave a shot at a traditional lifestyle. He worked a 9-5 job for several years, but found himself dissatisfied and fighting with his ambitions. The road to F.I.R.S.T. Institute was a long one, but eventually Misael found himself attending the school of his dreams.

The F.I.R.S.T. Step in Misael’s Career

When Misael toured the F.I.R.S.T. campus, he was convinced that it was the school for him in large part because of his tour guide. Misael had the chance to tell the tour guide his story and have a personal conversation about his future. The guide’s receptiveness and personal touch gave Misael an idea of the collaborative and friendly environment that F.I.R.S.T. cultivates.

“I felt at home,” Misael recalls. “I felt comfortable, like… this is where I can excel, this is where I can grow.”

Fantastic Faculty

Misael says the staff at F.I.R.S.T. made all the difference in his learning experience. “When they showed up to work every day, they wanted to be here. They wanted to teach you, they wanted you to grow.”

Misael posits that technology changes, and gear comes and goes – but the work ethic and attitude that F.I.R.S.T. Institute instructors instill in their students lasts for a lifetime.

Life after Graduation

After Misael graduated from F.I.R.S.T. Institute, he was in high demand. He compares the experience to being shot out of a cannon, or riding the Hulk roller coaster at Universal Studios. He immediately started working at an audio-visual company, and even started a second position at River Bear Studios – a recording studio he interned with during his time in school!

At River Bear, Misael sets levels and even produces his own artists. He also runs his own freelance business, Calibrated by Misael, where he specializes in guitar work.

In his career, Misael says F.I.R.S.T. was the first and most important milestone. “If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be in this industry today.”
